The start and finish areas of the Osaka Marathon course are around the same area - the Osaka Castle Park. The start is in front of the Osaka Prefectural Government Office, and it will run through the city, passing by the Osaka City Central Public Hall, and then moving along the primary main street in central Osaka - Midosuji Street (Shinsaibashisuji). Thereafter, the runners will pass by the Koycera Dome Osaka - a unique landmark and stadium which is often used for sports events and concerts. After the halfway mark, the runners will go pass the National Bunraku Theatre, and the Shitennoji Temple - which is the oldest official temple in Japan founded in the year 593 by the Prince Shotoku Taishi, and finally finishing at the Osaka Castle Park, around Gokurakubashi-Bridge.
The course is undulating and rolling during the first half of the course, with some parts generally flat. As it moves into the 2nd half, there will be steep climbs and descents, and eventually a final climb to the finish area at the Osaka Castle Park.
